La Pieve Barolo 2013

Like so many Barolos one of the chief attractions here is aromatic complexity and intrigue. It has generous sour red fruit (currant/cranberry/raspberry) nicely pitched against wood spice, wet red clay and pepperoni meatiness. It is mid-weight, slender and well balanced with fine, firm tannin, some sourness and excellent length. The balance and style make it quite drinkable now, whereas many Barolo need years of ageing.
